Teaching Teenagers to Drive
There comes a time in every parent’s life when he has to face the fact that his child is growing up and is able to make decisions on her own. But when it comes to learning how to drive, your teenager might as well be an infant again since you are going to have to take firm charge of her education. You can, of course, enrol her in a driving school where professionals will make sure that she will learn how to properly handle a car, but it is still a good idea to spend some extra time giving her a few lessons by yourself.
One of the most important things you can teach her which a driving school may not extensively cover in their lessons is how to take proper care of a car. Your teenager needs to learn essential tasks such as how to change tyres, check the oil, and other details that are vital in maintaining a car’s good condition. Another thing you can teach your teenager is how to navigate the car better by learning how to read maps or use GPS and plot a course when driving so that she can get to her destination in the shortest time possible.
Above all else, impress upon your teenager the fact that driving is a privilege which entails a lot of responsibility. So, she must take it very seriously and learn how to be a mature, responsible driver in order to avoid causing any accidents either by her actions or inactions.
